Kids Can Enjoy Sensory-Friendly “My Way Matinees” at Regal Cinemas All Summer

On the second and fourth Saturdays of each month this summer, theaters will offer movies in toned-down settings that help everyone enjoy the experience.

This summer Regal Cinemas is offering “My Way Matinees” for viewers of all ages who want to enjoy movies in a sensory-friendly, calmer environment. All “My Way Matinees” begin at 10:30am, and tickets can be purchased for the special price of $6.50. Some of the sensory-friendly movies that will be playing in June, July and August include The Secret Life of Pets 2, Toy Story 4, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and The Lion King.

“Regal is consistently working to create positive, lasting memories for all moviegoers,” said Heather Peters, Regal’s director of public relations. “My Way Matinee gives everyone the opportunity to experience a movie in a sensory-friendly space.”

Sensory-friendly showings make the theater a less overwhelming place for kids who might have sensitivities to light, sound, and sitting for long periods of time. This can be an ideal environment for kids with autism and other sensory-related issues, which makes it easier for families to all enjoy the movies together. Upcoming sensory-friendly Regal Cinemas showings include

Saturday, June 29–Toy Story 4 (PG)

Saturday , July 13–Spider-Man: Far From Home (PG)

Saturday, July 27–The Lion King (G)

Saturday, August 10–Dora and the Lost City of Gold (PG)

Saturday, August 24–Angry Birds 2 (PG)

Huge movie fans can join the Regal Crown Club to accumulate credits at the box office and concession stand including free popcorn, soft drinks, movies, and merchandise. Regal Cinemas has locations in Battery Park, Astoria, Union Square, Glendale, Staten Island, New Rochelle, and more. Theaters participating in My Way Matinees include those in Nanuet, Sheepshead Bay, and Long Island City.
