Action for Healthy Kids Provides Grants to Parents

Make a positive change in your child's school!

Action for Healthy Kids has provided $7.7 million in grants to schools since 2009 to help them accomplish their student wellness goals and now for the 2018-2019 school year it will offering Parents for Healthy Kids Grants. According to the website, "These grants, which are sponsored by ALDI, are designed for parents or parent groups (e.g. PTAs, PTOs, other) to lead school-based physical activity and nutrition initiatives and to engage more parents in student and family health."

Parents can apply up until April 6, 2018 and grants up to $1,000 are available.

Several parents in the New York area have already received grants. Here's what they have to say:

"The Neighborhood School is extremely grateful for the financial and educational support from Action for Healthy Kids in improving the overall wellness initiatives at the school. Our recess yard has new fitness stencils, and our 4th floor gym now has a climbing wall which our students are loving, thanks to AFHK & GoGo Squeez.” Jenny Ulloa, The Neighborhood School, New York, NY.

“When all the boxes of equipment arrived, I couldn’t believe all the new things the students now have to do during indoor recess: hopscotch, indoor ‘snowball’ fights, and jai alai. This is making a big difference in their school day and giving the teachers a new way of providing activity during the day. And that includes not only recess, but also PE classes and the school’s daily after-school program.”
PTA Coordinator Lisa Sessa, St. Edmund School, Brooklyn, NY

“The Action For Healthy Kids funding for our bike to school program is going to have a profound impact on our students and community. By teaching our students bike safety and encouraging them to become more physically active at a young age, it is our hope that they will continue these healthy lifestyles into adulthood.”
--Marc P. Baiocco, Superintendent of Schools Alice E Grady Elementary School Elmsford, NY
