Send Your Crush a Creepy-Crawly Cockroach Valentine

Send Your Crush a Creepy-Crawly Cockroach Valentine

Because roaches need love, too.

Ah, cockroaches—some of the common pests that lurk around our homes and apartments and can even trigger allergies and asthma attacks. The widely hated insects may not be the first thing you think of when you hear the word “love,” but the Bronx Zoo wants to change that, at least for one day.

Roaches generally scamper around anonymously, but now is your chance to show them love by naming them—and dedicating it to someone special for Valentine’s Day. The Bronx Zoo wants you to name one of its Madagascar hissing cockroaches and will present you with a digital certificate, with which you can profess your love to that certain someone.

For a $15 donation, you can write a love note along with the cockroach’s name, and for $50, you can receive The Works, which includes a roach-scented candle, cockroach-printed socks, and a printable certificate.  All proceeds will go toward the Bronx Zoo and WCS, so you’ll know that more than just roaches will benefit from your expression of love.

It’s the Valentine’s Day gift that will surely make their hearts flutter—and it may or not be out of fear.
