Mayor de Blasio Expands 3-K for All Program Ahead of Schedule

The program will serve 26,000 three-year-olds across all five boroughs for the 2020-21 school year.

Mayor Bill de Blasio and Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza announced that 3-K for All will expand to District 1 (Chinatown, the East Village, and the Lowest East Side) and District 14 (Greenpoint and Williamsburg) this fall–ahead of schedule–on Feb. 5. 3-K will also expand as planned this fall into District 12 (Central Bronx) and 29 (Cambria Heights, Hollis, Laurelton, Queens Village, Springfield Gardens, and St. Albans). 3-K and Pre-K for all applications opened to New York City families on Feb. 5. This expansion into an additional two districts brings the total number of three-year-olds served by 3-K for All to 26,000. Applications will remain open until Friday, April 24.

"Every family should be able to give their child the world, and expanding 3-K will help us set even more of our students on the path to success,” de Blasio said. “3-K and Pre-K for All are unlocking the potential of every child and creating more opportunity for families.”

Families in Districts 1, 14, 12, and 29 will be notified as new program options are added to the 3-K application, and parents will be able to update their kids’ applications any time before submitting. You can search for programs and apply online, or apply by calling 718-935-2009, or apply in person at a Family Welcome Center. The online application is available in 10 languages and you can apply over the phone in more than 200 languages. All families with children born in 2017 can apply for 3-K for All for this upcoming school year. Enrollment specialists will be available at sites across the five boroughs to help families with applications.

3-K for All is the largest effort to provide universal, free early childhood education in the country.  3-K was only projected to expand to eight districts by 2020 and has exceeded expectations. To learn more about programs in your neighborhood, head to the MySchools website.
